This photo was made using a large 4x5 format camera (reminding me just how convenient 35mm equipment is!), lugged to a location of brilliant red sumacs that I had observed for two autumn seasons, hoping to make something of them. I had to capture the sumac slightly before it reached full color to retain some of the green veining and also wanted a sunny day to give the maximum backlighting. Coordinating the two was a trick of playing tag with the sun, setting up the equipment, then waiting for just the right combination of no breeze and muted sun.
On this page is
one of hundreds of Earth Image Photography, Nature Photography images created
over more than thirty years. There are human interest photographs, humorous
photographs, photojournalism photography, great autumn leaf scenes and closeups
of autumn leaves. Time exposure photography is a large part of the collection
along with nature photography closeups. Wildflower images and snowy winter scenes
and soothing photographs, they're all here. Books are on this site too: We Boiled
Up a Sheet takes place near the duxburynorthpool, and My Summer Office is an
entertaining recounting of summers on the Wisconsin River inside and around
Sonbeam's Secret Channel. Enjoy the wealth of imagery to be found on the
Earth
Image Nature Photography site, both in photography and prose.
